About Taiwan


Climate
Most areas of Taiwan enjoy a subtropical climate. Please go to Central Weather Bureau for more information.

Language in Taiwan
Official Languages in Taiwan: Mandarin and Taiwanese.

Electricity
Taiwan operates on 110V/60Hz electric current, types A and B electrical outlet. For more information, please visit http://countrycode.org/taiwan. Visitors are encouraged to bring voltage converters or transformers if necessary.

Currency
Taiwan's currency is the New Taiwan Dollar (TWD). Bill denominations are 2,000, 1,000, 500, 200, and 100. Coin denominations are 50, 10, 5, and 1. Foreign currencies can be exchanged at the airport upon arrival (highly recommended), or at government-authorized banks and tourist hotels. Useful currency converter website: http://www.xe.com/ucc/.

Credit Card
Major credit cards are accepted by hotels, department stores, airlines, most stores and restaurants. However, Cash is generally preferred in most places in Taiwan.

Tipping/Taxes
A 10% service charge and a 5% value-added tax are automatically added to room rates and meals.
