Introduction

Quantum information science (QIS), an area of study to exploit quantum effects in physics for information processing, is an interdisciplinary and rapily developing research field. Several world-renowned experts working in this area are invited to present their most recent experimental observations and theoretical investigations at this Mini-Workshop on QIS. They include Prof. Anton Zeilinger (University of Vienna; and Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information, Austrian Academy of Sciences) , Prof. Lajos Diosi (Wigner Research Centre for Physics, Hungarian Academy of Sciences) and Prof. Jonathan Oppenheim (University College London). We hope that the Mini-Workshop will serve the purpose to interest and attract students and young scientists to the field of quantum information, and to promote the interaction between the international speakers and local researchers.

This Mini-Workshop also serves as a satellite event to the International Workshop titled "Horizons of Quantum Physics: from Foundation to Quantum-Enabled Technologies" that will take place from October 14th to 18th 2012 in Taipei, Taiwan.
