TITLEMetal Nanoparticle Films as Tunable Plasmonic Metamaterials and Uniform SERS Substrates

ABSTRACTMetamaterials have received growing attention owing to their unusual electromagnetic properties. Noble metal nanoparticles have been proposed to be building blocks for metamaterials because of their unique and tunable plasmonic properties. Here, we experimentally and theoretically demonstrate that plasmonic metamaterials composed of colloidal Ag nanoparticles can generate broad-band surface plasmon modes at visible frequencies, and the group index of these surface modes can reach around 30. Moreover, this bottom-up method for fabricating plasmonic metamaterials is quite simple, robust, and scalable. Therefore, it can become an attractive approach for many important plasmonic applications, including tunable substrates for perfect absorbers and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). In this talk, we will show that AgNP films can achieve highly enhanced and uniform Raman measurement over a large area.
