Minor project/Tainan of the National Center for Theoretical Sciences (NCTS) is
hosted by the National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) at Tainan. The project
principal investigator (PI) is Prof. Ying-Guey Fuh , the dean of college of Science of NCKU. This project consists of mathematics and physics divisions in
the beginning stage. The main goal of this project is to move the research of
mathematics and theoretical physics in Tainan area (Chia-yi, Tainan and
Kaoshiung) toward a research organization of excellence, to induce and enhance
the integration and collaborations of researchers among different institutions,
to attract and develop top quality talents, to invite outstanding international
scholars for collaborations, to host local and international workshops and other
academic activities for forming and promoting competitive research groups in the
international community, such that we can eventually establish an excellence
research organization structure for theoretical science in Tainan area. The
operation of this minor project consists of the staff scientists, research terms
and various academic research projects.

The National Cheng Kung University has promised to
provide four faculty positions to help the operation of this project and to
promote the research activities. Meanwhile, NCKU has also structured the second
to fourth floors of the Cheng-Kung House (totally about 1000 square meters)
spacing as research office rooms (including the project’s PI, co-PI, staff
scientists, visiting scientists, postdoctoral fellows and assistants), lecture
rooms, discussing and meeting rooms, as wall as a computer room, etc. The
location of the Cheng-Kung House is excellent, it is just near physics and
mathematics buildings, new library, information center and scholar’s dormitory
(within a few minute walking distance).

Based on the manpower and research specialties of
mathematics and theoretical physics in Tainan area, we will focus on the
following academic research programs in this project.

4. Discrete Mathematics (Interplay
between Discrete Mathematics and probability);

in Differential Equations);

6. Analysis (Functional Analysis,
Operator Theory, and Algebraic Methods in Analysis)

7.Statistics
